How To Get Positive Thinking Tips

digital world

Online - All the Time

We live in the wired age. The digital age. The internet age. Connected every single minute of every single day. 24/7, online – all the time.

We have the infinite knowledge of billions of individuals, of millions of generations past, of countless seekers and teachers available at our fingertips whenever we want. Not to mention, things like Words with Friends and Angry Birds.

So with this enormous amount of wisdom available to us whenever we want, why are some of the most frequently searched for items “positive thinking tips and tricks”?

Frankly, the sheer number of websites talking positive thinking tips, or ideas or quotes is absolutely mesmerizing. Literally, hundreds of millions of pages online, all filled with information about this kind of thought.

This positive thinking idea is on the minds of a lot of people. I mean, a lot of people. But there is something really strange about the idea of positive thinking online.

Why Positive Thinking Is Bad For You

Be AfraidWe live in a negative thinking world. Maybe we don’t want it to be that way, but many of our societies teach negative thinking as a life value in the guise of pessimism or pragmatism. We teach our young people to be afraid. Our news programs are filled with sad and angry stories, our TV programs are filled with hate and murder and lies and all around ugliness, and those are just the “comedies”.

The strange thing is that the Universe is not negative in nature. You don’t have to prove you deserve a wonderfully positive life; that is your birthright.

We are taught negativity; we are not born with it.

Sounds sad. And in fact it is kind of sad. For instance, searching through Google for this phrase

“why positive thinking is good for you”

yields around 209 results.

But searching for this phrase

“why positive thinking is bad for you”

brings back around 22,200 results.

That’s over 10,000 times more results for pages, articles, blog posts talking about positive thinking being bad for you. Now, truth be told, those are not huge numbers of webpages, but the idea that 10,000 times more information is available talking about the negative aspects of positive thinking provides an interesting viewpoint of our society.

Can Positive Thinking Change Your Life?

smiley being positiveOf course it can.

Just the same way as negative thinking can change your life. But that kind of change is not going to happen overnight. Well, truth be told, it is going to happen overnight, but you might not notice it right away.

Our world as a whole, drip, drip drips negative thoughts and ideas into our lives, so it just stands to reason that if we want to reinforce positive thinking in our lives that we use the same sort of tactic.

Because a single step, a single thought at a time is a remarkably effective way to change almost anything, and changing negative thinking to positive thinking isn’t any different.

There's Really Good News For You

Here at, we concentrate on positive thinking. No secret there, that idea is all over our website.  And if you want to change your negative thinking to positive thinking, and make sure that your positive thinking is effective, we offer a way to do that.

Everyday, Monday through Friday, we send out an email message to anyone who subscribes. Its free, its fun and it’s absolutely, unashamedly positive in nature. We’ve been doing this every day for almost 6 years. Lots and lots of people are on our email list and you can be too if you want. Hi Michael,

A slightly ‘to the left’ comment. I met with a nutritionist today. She told me that as I increase the fresh, raw food in my diet, I will notice an increase in positive thinking!

This is partly because our body is being nourished properly and the energy previously expended in digesting cooked food is now being used to cleanse the body of toxins. Visualization exercises, imagination and meditation will happen much more easily! We truly are what we eat, aren’t we?

That makes such perfect sense to me Rachel. I have said that many times before, we are what we eat. I have usually used that phrase in a slightly jesting way, meaning that our diet of bad news, and anger is what we use to create our lives.

But using our energy to completely digest our food instead of needing to deal with detoxing is just clicks on an intuitive level. Thank you for sharing this. :-)

Thank you Dena Lynn. Positive thinking is definitely contagious and lots of fun to catch too. We do get to choose what we let in and what to let out. It is a wonderful thing to know we have that kind of power. :-)

Hi Michael. I’m able to maintain a positive attitude most of the time (but I had a really bad day yesterday and a friend talked me back up). I’ve been a Gloomy Gertrude much of my life – partly due to brain chemistry and partly due to low self-esteem and being some kind of doom and gloom magnet. :)

I think what has helped me the most is the way that our church teaches us to pray. We start with thanksgiving and then make requests. Just thinking once or twice daily about all the things I have to be grateful for really helps me when I get that ‘NPR’ attitude that the world is going to end and I’m going to be a bag lady.

My grandmother was a persistent worrier, and I also joke that I got my worry gene from her, but as I look back, none of the calamities I feared have come to pass. I’ve had bad things, hard things, and even terrible things happen to me, but I’ve gotten through them and my life has gone on. I think an attitude of gratitude is one recipe for a happy heart. Thanks for this article.

    All the best,

Thank you for sharing your experience, Leslie. I don’t know if everyone grew up with the same kind of doom and gloom attitude, but that is sure how I was raised. I lived in a 98 percent family. And it wasn’t the kind of 98% we talk about now. Mine was the kind where next year is only going to be 98% as good as this year.

And today is only 98% as good as yesterday. It doesn’t take long in that way to where your days are really ugly. I am glad you are a more positive person now. I know I am and that has made all the difference in my life. :-)

Michael, I receive your Positive Tips every day… and I must say that I look forward to receive them.. I know that they are positive in every sense of the way…

Your Google search about “why positive thinking is good for you” and “why positive thinking is bad for you” was an amazing difference.. and I have to agree with you in many levels… negatives are more popular then positives for many, many people.

I do all I can do to stay positive and even when is not that easy, I still strive to stay positive and you know what? It works… I always feel better to think of positive thoughts and outcome…

Thanks so much for your positive outlook in all what make this “Life”

I really had no idea that anyone would look on Google for stuff about positive thinking being bad for you and when I saw the difference between the two phrases I was really surprised. It’s just a small amount of all the searches people do for this idea but it was quite amazing the difference between them.

Thank you for your kind words, Nick, I hope your day is going great today.

Isn’t it interesting, Michael, how everyone instinctively knows that positive thinking can help us move our lives forward, yet so few of us try to integrate it into our lives.

I think it’s easier to find negative messages, simply because they dominate the landscape of media, blogging, internet conversation… everything. I guess it’s simply “what sells”.

    That’s ok, I suppose.

But if you want YOUR OWN life to be better than it is, you need to deliberately and persistently practice positive thinking in all the variety of ways available.

It is interesting, maybe the negative thinking makes for better sales of stuff to help get rid of that negativity, I am not really sure about that. I know in many of the places I have worked in my life, the prevailing idea was that things were always better in the past and there was not much hope of anything getter better in the future.

So very, very true that if we do want a change for the better, we do need to deliberately practice being positive thinkers and valuing that when we do it. I know it has really worked for me to feel better and to see big changes in my own life, and for that I am terrifically grateful.

It looks like you would get a double keyword score since the way you worded your post you will show up under both why positive thinking is good for you and why positive thinking is bad for you….lol.

It reminds me of a marketing strategy that is often overused by marketers to rank for programs they are in by saying it is a scam, because every online program and money making opportunity is a scam you know? (Insert sarcastic look here).

    Thanks for the great post.

Jacqueline Waters recently posted..How Does Your Site Look- Does It Reflect Your Brand Positively? My Profile

That could prove to be the case, but I suspect maybe not so much because the post is not about positive thinking being bad but good for you so I would think that maybe the post will be grouped more in that category. I kind of think that if someone is looking for positive thinking being bad for you, they are not going to be all that taken with an article about the opposite. 😉

I think there are probably a lot of scams in online marketing, but nowhere near what people think there are when they read articles about a program being a scam, but I don’t really know.

I am glad you liked the post overall. :-)

Michael—thanks for a great read! You are so right—the world tends to prefer the negative to their own detriment. I am quick to admit that mine is a Christian world view that causes me to be in agreement with all you say about holding a positive attitude. I believe we were created to take joy from our lives. I read some fascinating work done by Dr. Carol Leaf where their brain mapping studies show that people who constantly hold and voice negativity, over time, develop brains that look different than those who hold and espouse positive attitudes. They conclude that, as we do with food, our body and mind reflect what we feed it!!!!

Thank you for your kind words, Gene.

You are so right, we are definitely created to take joy in our lives; Somehow we get off that path a bit or sometimes a lot an wind up wandering around the world of negativity, much to our detriment.

I had never heard of that study by Dr. Leaf before, but I have no difficulty believing that we are indeed made up exactly of what we feed ourselves. As much physically as emotionally and mentally. Thank you for sharing that with us. :-0

  7. marquita herald

Excellent article Michael and I like your explanation of positive thinking. Personally, I prefer to take it a step further. Positive thinking is fine, but to create meaningful change in life requires action. That’s where “possibility thinking” comes into play. Possibility thinkers take that “thought” a step further with the question – great thought, now what I can do to make this happen?
marquita herald recently posted..Exploring the Value of a Creative PauseMy Profile

You are absolutely right Marty, real change in our physical requires some action in order to be accomplished. I had not heard that phrase before of “possibility thinkers”, it sounds like a great combination of thinking and action. :-)

  8. Patricia Gozlan

    Hi Michael,
Good to come back to your sunny, positive, happy site;-)
Positive thinking is a habit, we need to learn to judge by ourselves without being hypnotized by what society or the media want to make us believe.
Bad news sell better than good news.
It is up to use to step up and learn to be responsible about our judgement, our lives so that we can ” contaminate in a positive healing way” the people around us.

    1. Michael

      Hi Patricia,

I am glad you are here on eh sunny side of the internet. :-)

You are so right, positive thinking is a habit, in my way of thinking it is closely aligned with the 4 (5) Agreements, in that it is our attitude that is important to pay attention to, and our thoughts that count. If ours are positive, then that is how our life will be, when we have negative thoughts, well, that is how our life will be.

I like that idea you are saying, to contaminate in a positive healing way, I have never heard it expressed that way, and I really like it. :-)

  9. Garen

    Hey Micheal,

One tactic is to just close your eyes and watch your thoughts go by not judging them or just recognizing them as thoughts. I do like being surrounded by positive people because I feed off of other peoples energy. I do a lot of visualization and it works for me. It can really make it tough when you are surrounded by lots of negative people as I grew up around. However, at the end of the day you make the choice on how to react. Actually, negative people motivate me a ton, because it someone I don’t want to be like.
Garen recently posted..Can a Backlink Hurt You?My Profile

    1. Michael

That makes a lot of sense, Garen. That idea of being the observer of our thoughts, and letting them pass by without judging.

I found out in life online that at first I emulated my growing up life, surrounding myself with a big array of negative thinking people. It took some doing, but I eventually managed to let go of most of the negative people in my life. Sometimes doing that left a big uncomfortable hole for a little while. But I found that when I did let go of that negativity, I wound up filling that place in my life with more positive people.

It took a little while to see that this process works, but when I did it enough to have confidence in the outcome, I stopped beating myself up for letting go and started congratulating myself for taking care of myself. :-)

  10. Sarah Arrow

Wow, the difference in search volume is amazing. Are any of those posts the kind of “Positive thinking is bad for you” and then flip it into why it’s good for you really type of posts? Wow, that’s a bit convoluted… in short, do you think people are taking advantage of that traffic to sell positive thinking or they genuinely believe it’s bad for you?

    1. Michael

It was quite astonishing. It is not quite the same when you do the search without using quotes, you wind up with more positive thinking is good pages, but with the quotes, I was quite bowled over at the difference.

I looked through the first couple of pages, not all of them for sure, and the majority of the “positive thinking is bad” were genuinely espousing that idea. Some of those were academic or based on academia, the kind of thing where people are trying to get their dissertations noticed online or have made a product out of them to pay for their college debt; but most of the ones I read were people who were bitter because of their unhappy experiences in their lives.

Why they decided to share their angst is quite beyond me, I truly have never figured that out. I now some people sell their marketing programs like that trying to cash in on one of the “hero models” but for the most part I just don’t get it.

But th truth is, it is their doing, not mine, and I have chosen to fill my life with more positivity, and am living a much more wonderful life these days. :-)

      1. Sarah Arrow

Yes, sharing angst seems to appeal to a certain type of person (and I’m not really one of them). I wonder if they feel by off loading their negative experience they are healing themselves in some way? Clearing the path in their mind for dare I say it.. some happier, more positive thinking.

        1. Michael

Maybe so. I think that sharing angst is used by some people to feel better in relation to how others feel. And if others feel a bit more negative and closer to how the angst-share feels, then they feel better by comparison.

I think it is possible to feel positive in relation to ourselves and that idea leads away from a zero sum game. That sounds really good to me. :-)

I learned a long time ago that mere information is not enough to cause one’s transformation. It is viewing fixed thinking from a totally new perspective. It can happen on a dime, it can happen over time. If we countered every negative thought that came to us with one that is uplifting and empowering, our lives would alter forever.

Strive to be an inspiration to others.

I really like the way you put this idea Rick, of learning to view fixed thinking from a totally new perspective. It does happen on a dime sometimes, and those little dimes worth of changes add up after a while.

It does take some doing to counter our negative thoughts with positive ones, and boy oh boy when we develop that habit, our lives are really different in a much lighter and happier way. :-)

I am a firm believer of how changing to a positive mind set can change your life. I had to learn the hard way. Friends of mine have seen a change in me, but refuse to believe it actually could work for them, so they keep doing the same insane stuff over and over again expecting a different outcome.

So true, Melanie, we get stuck sometimes in that whole “take massive action” “no pain , no gain” perspective and wind up keeping on the same path expecting it to get to a better place when all we are really doing is walking around in circles.

I am glad you have found a way to be positive and stay that and how awesome that your friends can see the difference in your life. :-)

Excellent, I love writing them each day and doing so has made a huge difference in my own life. That is wonderful that you are already a positive person, I don’t ever want to go back to thinking any other way. :-)

  14. Raena Lynn

    Hi Michael,

I receive your ALOL quotes every morning in my email. I think they are wonderful. One thing I noticed I was doing recently was waiting to open your email last. Of course email can be negative or positive and I’ve learned that I can quickly go through my mail and save the ALOL quote for last so I’m left with a positive thought after filtering out all the other stuff.

I’m always working on positive thoughts and it is a process. I like the comparison you used to describe how negativity is trickled to us daily…it is! So why not do the same with positivity? It is up to me to choose what thoughts I want to think as I go through my day. Sometimes it’s tough. Sometimes it’s natural to slump a little. When those times come, I know it will pass and that is how I get through! In a day or so, I’m feeling wonderful again and I laugh at myself for being negative at all!

I’m so impressed with people who have such strong characters and keep a sincerely positive attitude in extreme conditions. I wonder how they handle negative conditions. I believe they have learned to live moment by moment and focus on their end goals, whatever they may be. They don’t let negativity attack. They are able to ward it off and stay positive. I want to be able to do that more often. Thanks Michael!

      Hi Raena,

I am humbled and grateful for your kind words. :-) That is very cool that you open the ALOL message last. And that makes a lot of sense to me.

We do get many negative thoughts trickled into our lives on a daily basis and if you are a number of email lists, many of them are worded in a very negative way. That’s not really their intention to make us feel bad, but to get us to take some sort of action – usually buying something.

Buying things is not a bad thing, but those little drips and drops of negativity add up and are accumulated into our days along with scary news stories, people that want us to share stuff on Facebook – the latest scam or ugly political story. And eventually we wind up filling our thought space with almost pure negativity.

Then that is how we act throughout our day.

Being positive is a learned behavior, just like being negative is. I know I feel much better when I am filled with positive thoughts and my days sail by so smoothly rather than bumping along with 4 flat tires. 😀

I am always amazed that people don’t understand how important it is to think the right way. Both types of thinking create something in our lives, and I would much rather think positively than negatively. I needed this reminder. It is quite amazing how we get stuck in that negative rut. I know that is how I grew up and it took a considerable amount of doing to get myself out of that rut I had learned to dig for myself. But boy howdy, was it ever worth going through that change in my life.

As a whole, society does not go out of its way to reward people for changing their lives, but interestingly enough, when we start down this path, like-minded people tend to show up every day. :-)

Anything that can bring a warm feeling for the start of your day is great!

I love the idea of thinking positive and more it does change your experiences. You can find a positive thing in every situation with practice. Let us say most situation I found it works.

My life is full of adventure daily and that is 94% all based on my positive thoughts. It only attacks likeness. If you think negative that is what comes in a huge way.

Only thing is that you have to believe and not just quote something. You can say phrases all you want. Yet, without hope and belief it doesn’t work. It is just reading words or saying words.

Thanks Michael you are one of our great visionaries and you bring happiness to many of us by just the supportive attitude you bring to the table.

It does take some doing to change, I know it did for me. I suspect that each person takes the amount of effort that is individual for them. For some, it might be more or less than what I did but wow, do I ever have adventures in positivity now.

You are so right about needing to take action. Changing our thinking does start within, but after we begin to change how we think, we do need hope and belief and then actually doing something. Kind of like proving to ourselves and the Universe that we are serious.

      But better, oh yeah 😀

    1. Michael

Thank you Harish, for your kind words. It is good to start right now on changing our thinking. It sometimes takes a little while to see that change in a big way, but starting is the key.

    Dear Michael and fellow Readers,

Once again: I HAD to thank Michael and his wife, Susan, for the work they are doing. As Raena Lynn said, I started to do the same thing. Keeping ALOL messages to read once I am through with everything else. Or taking some calm, quality time to read and think about the message.

If you want to see and understand what positive thinking is in 1 minute and 45 seconds, watch this:

If the link doesn’t work, go to Youtube and search for “dumb and dumber chance”. It’s the first video with a snippet from the movie “Dumb and Dumber” with Jim Carrey. The movie might be silly but it has some profound truths, transmitted in a very funny way.

I wish you all the most positive things that Life can give you. Keep you heads up, as we are ALL winners! We won the race for Life at conception, against millions of other “swimmers” – for some reason you got here, now off you go and enjoy your time being.

    In Kindness,

    1. Michael

Thank you for you kindness and for your wonderful words of encouragement. And for this cool video clip. I saw the movie a long time ago, but watching this scene gives an uplifting sense of feeling better.

Wow, I have to admit I had not thought of that, saving the message to read until it is the last one, but it makes a lot of sense to do it that way. I love beginning and ending my day with a positive thought.

Thank you for you kind wishes and you are absolutely right, there is no reason in the world why we shouldn’t enjoy our lives. They are ours to live and filling up with positivity sounds like a pretty good way to do that to me. 😀

  19. Dick Ingersoll

Thank you so much for your service Michael!

It is truly wonderful how much difference a simple positive message can make in our day.

It is a very strange time in which we live where so many are in a funk and completely convinced that it’s all someone else’s fault. When did we stop taking responsibility for ourselves and our own situation?

I hope everyone of the negative thinkers take advantage of your generous service!

    1. Michael

Thank you for your kind words, Dick. Sending out these messages is one of the highlights of our day. Its a funny thing sometimes, people will write me and tell me that the message for a particular day is exactly what they had been thinking about just before they read it. I think that is really a very cool thing.

It is odd how we wind up in a funk so much. I think part of feeling better in our lives is doing things for ourselves with the knowledge that we are in charge of our lives. I don’t when that idea stopped being the norm, but I know my life changed incredibly when I acted as if I was in charge of my life.

And now I don’t know how to ever go back to any other way of thinking. :-)

    1. Michael

I was stunned by the difference actually. Then when Sarah asked about what the results were like I went and read a bunch of them. And found out that most of the ones that were about the “bad for you” idea were really that way.

Positive full speed ahead, I like that idea. Thank you for sharing it.

    1. Michael

It was very interesting. Then I went and read some of the entries, and it was even sadder. We are so created to live happy lives, many people teach that is not the case, but offer only their own experience as proof. Leaving us with no reason at all to not choose being positive.

OK, a lot of negative phrasing in that last sentence, when in truth it is just as simple to choose to be positive as to choose to be negative. There’s only two choices, so why not choose the one that feels good.

  20. Donna Merrill

    Hi Michael!

I think it comes to “training your brain” in this world to have positive thinking a part of your mindset. We can do things like try to hide from the talking heads on TV (I do lol) but there is a constant negative energy that people use all the time. We are constantly exposed to it.

For me, when my thinking goes to those nasty words like should, what if, could have, A red flag is raised and I immediately turn those words into positive ones. I do know that much of my thinking patters are neuro-linked from childhood, so I rolled up my sleeves and attended courses, etc. to change that.

Positive thinking in a world where there is a lot of negative thinking is something that has to be reinforced. Anything we can do to stay on top of this works. I thank you for doing all the work you do.

I know when I click the button to your blog, it is going to be a pleasurable experience.

    1. Michael

      Hi Donna,

It does take a while to train our minds to think in a positive way, not just the idea of positivity that means its good, but in the way of positivity being relatively synonymous with inclusion. Both those idea are difficult for people to accept because we have been taught to think in terms of good and bad and bad is what happens more often than not. And we are taught to exclude experiences and people from our personal experience of life.

But worth doing, you betcha. Thank you for your kind words, it is always a pleasure when you come by. :-)

      Hi Shelley,

Thank you for your kind words. You are right, there is a huge amount of negativity in the world and people keep passing it around, as if they want other people to feel that way. I don’t really think they do think that, but it surely seems that way sometimes.

But not on A Life of Light where positivity rules. :-)

I just signed up for you list! I can’t wait to get the positive messages in my email inbox everyday!!!

I get some positive messages in my email box everyday but they just don’t really do it for me. Can’t wait to get yours and see if the message resonates with me.

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.” Proverbs 23:7

So that begs the question: How do we get “right” thinking? Well, by thinking positive, productive thoughts. How do you do that? Well, what you see and what you read has a big influence on your thoughts and consequently your behavior, so it’s a feedback loop.

Thanks for your blog and this post in particular!!!

Very cool. 😀 I hope you really enjoy the messages. We have a great time writing them.

I believe as you are saying that how we think is how we are. And we develop that idea of ourselves by what we take in from our contact with the world. Well, kind of I believe that. I think we are all representations of god and we learn other ways to be that make us feel less than that. And those things we learn from the people around us.

The best part of that for me, I think, is that because we did learn something and changed as a result of that learning, then we can learn something else and change again. Hanging around with like-minded people is a great way to do that. :-)

That is a disturbing statistic that so few posts were written about the value of positive thinking while so many thousands of people are willing to say that positive thinking is bad in some way. But that is a reminder that people like you and I have a huge task – to educate, inform and assist people to add more positive thinking to create the lives they truly want.

      Dr. Erica,

I was quite astonished that the difference was so great. Then I took a look at some of the listings and saw that they really were negative and positive and very few addressed both points of view. I do think that the world could definitely use a lot more, (I mean A LOT MORE positive people expressing positive thinking. I like being able to spread some amount of positivity into the world. I find that it alwasy comes round again in a very nice way.

Micheal, I come to read your post before and now come back since I did a little research my self… and I must say YOU ARE CORRECT… negatives overpower positives by a great, great margin.. wow!!!! And than we wonder why the world is as it is. In my small world it is obvious that being positive will bring harmony around all of us and negatives brings much dull moments… so it is abvious what is best… but I guess is not the same for every one.

Hope with the help of many positive ambassadors like you will make a positive change in the world.
Thanks for all you do others.

Quite amazing the difference isn’t it. I know that many people view the world primarily in a negative way and it is like they want others to join in hat attitude with them. You are right, in our own worlds it is imperative that we live in the positive. When we live in the negative, that is what shows up more and more.

I don’t need to add any negativity into my life, but I surely have lots of room for positive thinking. :-)

Thanks for the relevant issues. You know, it made me think a lot. Pros and cons of positive thinking. I was thinking should I teach the knowledge of positive thinking to my kids? And you know, I decided not to. When they get older they will realize that the life is not an easy game and positive thinking doesn’t work when you have nothing to eat for instance. So, to get them ready for future we should play fair and show they the life like it is, with all its faults.

      You are welcome, Evan. :-)

I don’t know there is any reason to not teach your kids the value of positive thinking. Positive thinking is not about stuff like lollipos, and balloons and kitty cats, it is about how to see that the world in general is a kind and wonderful place in which we belong.

And when we see that and get it and live that way, expecting everything, every situation, every conversation to turn out to be for our highest good, to turn out perfectly, that sounds like a much better way to live than expecting everything to be awful. or worse yet, expect most things to be terrible and you never know which ones are going to turn out that way. So you always anticipate the worst.

Why not expect the best. What do you have to lose?

Great post Michael. I have learned that the more I expose myself to positive messages, people, activities my thoughts stay positive. It is so easy to get caught up in negativity used to blow my mind how when I worked a team of positive people would fall apart when one negative person would come on board. The power is so strong you have to arm yourself with the right tools like affirmations for example.

Thank you, Lydia. Positive thinking is one of those necessary things we need in our lives. Especially, when it is so popular these days to accentuate the negative aspects of almost everything. Life is wonderful, why not think that way and enjoy our days. :-)

    Hi Michael,
thank you for sharing your insights.

It seems amazing that there are so many search results for why ‘positive thinking could be bad for you’.
Personally, I can’t think of one reason!
Sure, there is the side where positive thoughts bring up doubts – the ‘yeah, right’ response.
To me it makes sense to reprogram our thinking in a gentle way with leading in questions like ‘wouldn’t it be nice if..?’ and the added ‘more and more ….’ so we can accept the new thought more likely.

At first I didn’t believe my results when I got them for the big disparity in the numbers. Then when I started clicking on the results pages themselves I was quite amazed in kind of a sad way. Yorinda, you are absolutely right about the best way to change being in a gentle way. That lasts, it isn’t difficult to make small changes, and it just feels better. :-)

      1. Yorinda

        Hi Michael,
yes, it seems sad that some people think of positive thinking as a ‘bad’ thing.
I recently helped a friend set up her twitter account and scheduled some positive quotes on it and people retweeted them and she had more followers.
She didn’t want me to continue with the quotes since she was worried about her reputation since she didn’t see them as uplifting. ? ? ?
Since I stopped scheduling them she had very little new followers.

I like Raena’s comment about your email quotes.

        Thanks again for sharing this.

It is funny sometimes how people think about things, almost as if there is a limited amount of good stuff in the world, and once it gets used up there isn’t going to be any more of it.

That’s too bad about your friend thinking that her quotes were not uplifting, I don’t really understand that thinking, but I think that if she was really thinking that way, that was pretty much a self-fulfilling prophecy for her.

Thank you for your kind words about Raena – she is goo d people.

It was the strangest thing, Sarupa. I was quite flabbergasted when i saw the results. Then when I went to look at some of the pages that turned up, they were indeed all about how bad positive thinking was for you. And that strengthened my resolve to share even more positive ideas and thinking as far around the internet as I could. :-)

Thank you for your kind words, Cherrie, becoming a positive thinking person has been the journey of a lifetime, and boy oh boy, has it ever been a wonderful experience. :-)

Cetainly, Michael, the things we tell ourselves are far more important than anything that others can say to us. It’s our self-talk that really conditions who we become, more than “destiny” or “luck” or “5-year plans”.

So it’s really critical that we learn to tell ourselves the right things, and those things are always grounded in positive messages.

You are so right, David. it is vital that we learn to speak nicely to ourselves. We’re taught to be polite to others, but for some reason we are not taught to be that way to ourselves. Even more important, we hear everything we say to ourselves and when we say positive things they count ever so much more than other people saying them to us.

    1. Michael

Very true, positive thinking is a way of life. We see plenty of negative stuff everyday, a big does of positive thinking can be just the ticket to change that. :-)
